Call for Justice: Condemnation of Unethical Political Persecution of Rached Ghannouchi by the Tunisian Government
KUALA LUMPUR – Wadah Pencerdasan Umat Malaysia (WADAH), an Islamic Organisation in Malaysia, strongly condemns the recent political persecution and unethical treatment of Rached Ghannouchi, a prominent political figure and leader of Ennahda in Tunisia. This escalation in political repression undermines the foundational principles of democracy and human rights that many Tunisian citizens fought for during the Revolution.
The regime’s actions against Ghannouchi, including politically motivated charges and unjust detentions, represent a blatant violation of the rule of law and an alarming trend toward authoritarianism. These actions not only threaten Ghannouchi’s personal freedoms but also serve to silence dissenting voices and stifle political pluralism in the country.
We urge the Tunisian government to uphold its commitments to human rights and to ensure that all political leaders can operate free from harassment and intimidation. It is vital for the health of Tunisia’s democracy that political disagreements be addressed through dialogue and respect for civil liberties rather than through unjust retribution.
WADAH calls upon the international community to monitor the situation closely and to advocate for the respect of human rights in Tunisia. We stand with those who fight against oppression and call for the immediate release of Rached Ghannouchi and all political prisoners unjustly detained for their beliefs.
As descendants of the Arab Spring, it is incumbent upon all of us to champion the values of freedom, justice, and equality. The time to act is now. We call on Tunisians and citizens around the world to raise their voices against this political injustice and advocate for a fair and just political landscape in Tunisia.
