THE PRIME MINISTER SHOULD UPHOLD THE FEDERAL CONSTITUTION AND PARLIAMENTARY DEMOCRACY

WADAH PENCERDASAN UMAT MALAYSIA (The Movement for An Informed Society Malaysia) (WADAH) called upon the Federal Government under the leadership of the Prime Minister to be open and sincere on the issue of the supports of the members of parliament, which is now an open public polemic, both at home and abroad. Such openness and sincerity are crucial to ensure that the legitimacy of the present Federal Government administration is in line with the supremacy of the Federal Constitution and the principles of parliamentary democracy practiced in this country.

[2]      WADAH would also like to call upon the Federal Government to expedite the parliamentary session and to table a motion with the objective to determine the support of members of parliaments. It is only through this mechanism that the polemics on the legitimacy of the present Federal Government will be resolved in a constitutional, dignified and authoritative manner.

[3]      WADAH would like to express its concerns that should the polemic regarding the legitimacy of the Federal Government continue, it would inflict damages on Malaysia’s reputation amongst the international communities and weaken our economic position as well as complicating the management of the worsening Covid-19 pandemic. Continued polemics may also lead to a loss of confidence amongst the rakyat in the integrity of parliamentary democratic practices as the best solution our future country’s governance issues.

[4]      WADAH would like to call upon all members of parliament to adhere to high morals – not to get mired in the frivolous political acts of ‘buying supports’ that have been publicly debated. It is an act of corruption that clearly contravenes the principles of Islam.

[5]      Let us pray together towards a more intact and stable political condition of our beloved country, so that a Government that has the support of the majority of rakyat will be given the mandate and opportunity to effectively address the prevalent challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.

May ALlah Subhanahu Wata’ala grants His Blessing onto this country.

Thank You.
